i like my profile ;) don't check it out...

i also like the game as much as my profile :)

Deleted 2 years ago

I seem to have fallen for a trick.

I don't know about your profile provide a link

minimum requirementsa?

The game uses extensive use of mesh instancing, which requires a DX11-level graphics card.

(It may run on other graphics cards, but is likely to be very slow.)

Absolutely loving this, really happy to see a Linux build so early on!

Very interested to watch this continue development :)

i try to install and get "No compatible uploads were found for this title".

(-1)

What are you trying to install? There is not install for Windows, and I don't think there should be one for Mac and Linux.

(+1)

I think the issue is that none of the downloads have been tagged with their respective operating system, making them un-installlable through the client.

THANKS CYBOLLIC!  Yeah, that probably was the case! Thanks!

I can confirm that the Linux client now shows the "Install" button and that it downloads the correct package :)

I just beat the game after struggerling on the second mission but i found a really cheap and easy strat to help me win that i haven't seen anyone use Try using pylons as a wall give it a go it will change your life.

(+1)

Haha!  That's not how we intended pylons to be used :P

Did you beat the entire game and found that the second mission was the most difficult?

(1 edit)

yes that is how i found it, it probably was because that mission helps you decide how you want to play the game, but still it was brilliant and i look forward to more of you're hard work thank you.

you should add an endless defense mode

This is an excellent idea!

The final mission is fun, but I could easily go 20 + rounds.

Maybe an increase in alien damage as well.

increase in alien damage sounds good but also new aliens is a must if the game is going to expand

As an owner of Broforce, Genital Jousting and Gorn, I am rlly excited to play this game. Downloading it right now, and love everything you guys put out. I really wish there was a way we could financial support you guys, but overall I am glad to see your growth as a company, from a hobby to a living haha. Thanks for putting this out <3

Agreed.

Ahh, it love me a good game of--er- genital jousting?

(1 edit)

I'm really stuck on the 6th mission, there are too many aliens, i tried several ways to pass it but it seems impossible...  Is it just me ?

(3 edits)

No, that others have reported that mission being extra difficult as well. We'll probably make that mission simpler or come later in the campaign.

On that level the houses and farms that you start with aren't really adequate for the economy you need. You need to start with building an extra community center and an extra greenhouse and farms (at least). If you have lots of credits you'll be able to build lots of mines and enhance those mines and build plenty of trucks (as the mines are all pretty far away). You'll need a lot of ore to defend on four fronts.

The way I approach defending that level is to use the pheremone traps to get the aliens to cluster near a few places on the map, and then only defend those spots, not even building walls elsewhere where the aliens won't come. And I use the resources I save from not defending everywhere to build extra thumpers (which slow down the aliens a lot). Of course you need a fair bit of power to run the thumpers, I'd recommed getting at least 2 tritium reactors.

The most recent build I think did make that level a little easier, I'm not certain exactly which build you're using.

Coconut Mouse beat the level like this (in an older build):

Don't know if that's what you're struggling with though?

Well, i finally did it. Yes, you are right, building farms helps a lot. The big problem is electricity, it's for me the only problem in this game. I need at least 700k+ to win my games, i got the same problem for mission 7.

Under 700k, turrets fire 2-3 times and they're out of energy. With thumpers, pheromones and tesla towers, my god all of these tritium reactors and solar panels are useless...

Batteries helps, but they can't reload enough energy to continue firing for all of these DAMN ALIENS :p Really, i enjoy this game, it's super fun. It's the only disadvantage for me.

Also, i see in the video that farms aren't the same as mines, i got the brown ones. Is there a difference ?

P.S: It's also frustrating when a sandstorm appears when the final wave come.... XD

You're playing a newer version of the game where the farms look different (and better in my opinion).

On the later missions if you can charge like 10 capacitors you should be able to hold off the aliens with 200-300 surplus power. Tesla turrets and especially mortar turrets are very energy efficient.

This game is really good. Keep it up guys!

good rts i like it! challenging enough but not too hard. time between waves should be a bit longer

I agree, also selection for # of waves or difficulty of opponent would be nice to appeal to various skill levels.

next level walkthrough Adversity Is Opportunity

and some next losing part

and win part of level 8 furnace your foe

Do the creators have a patreon?

We don't! If you want to support us, just being excited about the game and telling us about it is very motivating. Also if you've got friends that you think would enjoy it, telling them about it.

You can also check out Free Lives's previous games on Steam (though developed by different team members): Broforce, Genital Jousting and Gorn.

I see, well if you guys have venmo or something I would love to support this game.!!!

hey, could you provide a linux build?

I'll make sure that there's a Linux build in the next update (though it'll be untested).

Please include an option to increase number of waves!

Definitely looks like a bug. Sorry about that!

its okay :)

btw. I finished all of them now :) will post my playlist here and some gif for you

Also dont forget to recruit your friend

Really nice game! Only played the first level so far but it is very intuitive and looks like it has heaps of potentional.

Really fun, beautiful looking game! I only had time to play the first level because I wasn't quite getting how the energy economy was working (wasn't quite understanding that even if I have surplus, the surplus affects how fast things charge). Definitely going to be playing more of this game! Hope you enjoy the video!

i creating a list of playthrough for each level (but all of them is my first playthrough XD)

level 1 :)

Looking forward to seeing you beating them all!

I really enjoyed this game a lot! The tower defense / RTS style game play is super fun and got really challenging really fast :P

I'd recommend this game to anyone who enjoys a good old strategy game and I really look forward to seeing where the development of this game goes :D

I made a little video of my first impressions of the game (I'm probably going to make another one as well, I gotta see more of what this game has to offer!)

Hey thanks for playing and making this video! It's great!

Thank you! Your game is really good so far! I cant wait to see how your development goes :D

Hey dude, just thought I'd mention I made that follow up video, level 4 was seriously fun heheh

Very impressive game, think I will do a little youtube video on this, a great mix of Starship Troopers and They are Billions!

this is absulutely fantastic. really remind me of starship trooper XD

do we have an option to lower the resolution? i got low fps on level 3 and really low fps on level 4 & 5.

this game is not unbalanced :) it just really fun

i created walkthrough through lvl 5

btw, i read almost all the comment was about tutorial. do you need some tutorial vid? i can create some if you want :)

what lvl is that first pic on this website?

PS: BUILD A 3 LAYER WALL AND 1 LAYER OF GARISON AND YOU'LL BE SAVE (at least for 30s)

Thanks for playing! You should be able to lower the resolution from the launcher? That said it might not help cause the game is pretty CPU bound.

We're hoping to do better tutorialization and teaching in-game (it's not THAT hard if we can teach the mechanics correctly) - but if you wanna make videos that would also be great!

The screenshots are mostly from the only (as of now) level with lava: 8 - Furnace for your Foe

losing at lvl 6 cause the laggy screen :')

after losing, we restart to 3 level before us? I lose at lvl 6 and need to play lvl 3 again

That definitely seems like a bug :O

You can press Shit-U in the menu screen to unlock all the levels if something goes wrong.

Don't know how to report bugs but it seems that after placing a lot of buildings (especially the garrison thing) and the game starts to slow a bit, the numbers from the farm income becomes flipped and super large. You can also have the text appear that you win the wave while losing (the last bug destroyed your main base and died?). The saves doesn't seem to save the progress of which level you have completed (it might be just me though)

Thanks for playing! We'll try and fix these things. Did your progress not save at all? Or just the level when you won and lost at the same time?

(1 edit)

Well I could select all the levels. I played until the 3rd level on my first day and when I came back the next day all of the levels were unlocked. It's not a problem but I think that's unintentional (its not related with the level that I won and lost).

(1 edit)

I absolutely love this game! It's really fun. However, I find level 5 to be a bit unbalanced. The first waves are really easy to defend but the last one is much more difficult! It's quite frustrating to play the first waves and die in the last wave, again and again.

Other than that, it really is a fun game. However, I think that a tutorial is absolutely necessary in the beginning as it took me a few minutes to figure everything out. And CPU usage is very high on Mac. Would love to see some CPU optimisation. I've had no bugs on Mojave.

Thanks for playing! CPU usage is something we wanna fix, but it's a lot of work so it'll be a while.

Multiplayer??

(+2)

That's something we'd love to do, but it's not something we'll be adding in the immediate future. (It's a lot of work!)

for some reason im having trouble connecting roads. whenever i make one there's a stop sign on it, regardless of how many i connect or what i connect them to. probably a simple user error but it made it difficult to progress.

love the game though! it looks really nice and plays easily. great work guys!

Thank you for giving it a go! A road shows the stop sign when it's a dead end. To make a road connect to another road, you have to end the road (i.e. release your mouse button) on the same tile as an existing road. If you still struggle, maybe some of the Let's Play videos linked below can help you see it in action?

Hi guys! You've done a great job developing this game, I just love those kind of games where you have to build some defenses to protect your base. It took me a little while to understand that you have to built a lots of solar panels and capacitors to have enough energy to defend yourself against those aliens ahah! Overall I've had a great time playing this game!

THis game so good i liek. Why is shrek not in game

Awesome game, cool graphics, easy to learn, no bugs. GRATZ!!!
Recommended 10/10

seems great! but i tried to play it on linux (ubuntu) with wine and it just shows a black screen with music :( could make linux build?

(+1)

Erk! Next time we make a build, I'll try make a Linux one, though it will be untested.

thank you :) I'll try it out!

Is there a way to rotate buildings?

There currently isn't. It's by design, in that it makes it more harder/more interesting to have to plan how your roads should be placed, and allows you to see all of the building entrances without having to rotate your camera all the time, but it's something we can revisit if a lot of people feel strongly otherwise!

Yeah, please let us rotate buildings. It just makes things harder, but not in a good way.

This game reminds me of starcraft + Command and Conquer and traditional tower defence games. While I do think the concept for this is pretty good, I did have issues with some of the mechanics in the game. The main one being the randomness of the sandstorms. They would hit whenever they wanted to which greatly impacted the gameplay of this game. There would be no power which meant you couldn't defend you base properly and you would end up loosing all because of the random sandstorms. I think these need balancing so that they are not suxh a hinderence to the game or taken out completely. If it was more of a real time strategy game then maybe sandstorms wouldn't be much of a problem in the game because you could constantly be gettimg more resouces to upgrade your base to combat the sandstorms effect but this isn't the case.

Also, there needs to be a tutorial. While I myself hate tutorials, you should at least give the player the option to play one. Especially because of the management aspect to this game. While I disagree with a tutorial being a mandatory part of the game, it should still be an option for the player.

Lastly, there is no 1080p option in the menu so we have to play it at 720p.

Apart from those things, the game plays pretty solid and how you would expect it to. There is still work to be done here before its really ready to be released fully but you are on the right tracks to creating an awesome real time tower defence management game.

Heres a video for you to enjoy.

(1 edit)

There definitely should be a 1080p option (because that's how we run it here). Are you sure you had Full Screen selected instead of Windowed? I believe Unity gives you a different set of resolutions (that are smaller than your native one) if you're on Windowed.

I didn't implement the sandstorm code, but I believe that they're not actually random (they'll appear at the same timing each time you play a level). We could definitely do a better job of informing the player about this though, whether through some kind of weather forecasting or something so that you have some time to prepare for them. Thank you for playing! :)

I had the game on fullscreen mode and not windowed and there still was no 1080p option for me. Also, in my playthough of the game, they did seem random but that might be because I had not played the level. Some kind of indication or warning would be a good thought for the game. Also, just a thought now but maybe add some kind of indication of how many enemies will spawn. The reason tower defence games do so great is because that most offer a linear path for the enemies to come from and split these paths off in later stages. I like the more freeflow you are aiming for but an indication of how many enemies will spawn would be nice. Also, maybe some kind of reward for defeating a wave would be nice like additional ore or currency depending on the level. Again, this game is a long way from being a complete game and there are always things you can add and take away to make the game amazing. These are just a few idea. I hope everything goes well for you and your studio.
